deacons

leading by serving

Prayerfully serving as a helping hand to the pastor and caring for the congregation and the community.

Deacons are servant-leaders. The word Deacon comes from the Greek ‘Diakonos’ meaning servant. Deacons are servants in the church using their leadership gifts and skills to help the church and promote its growth.

The Second Baptist Deacon's Mission
The ministry works to fully incorporate the church's discipleship process of connection, commitment, and community into all aspects of its ministry.

  • Connection—Making weekly calls or visits to the sick and shut-in and making monthly visits to the Senior Living facility to share devotional materials and have a mini-worship service.

  • Commitment—The Deacon Ministry is committed through its involvement in the life of the church in many ways: from teaching Sunday school, providing communion supplies and conducting communion, distributing Daily Bread devotional materials, assisting the pastor with the daily morning prayer call, providing security, and driving the church bus to bring people to church for Sunday service and other activities.

  • Community—The Deacon Ministry strives to make a difference in the community by partnering with The Shelter Association of Washtenaw County's Rotating Shelter program to bring relief to the homeless community. The Deacons also care for those experiencing temporary financial hardship through the Benevolence Ministry.
